Sandi Goff Farkas

SANDI GOFF FARKAS has been a Lark Trustee since 2006. She is a playwright, screenwriter, arts advocate, and the creator of the groundbreaking Playwrights of New York (“PoNY”) Fellowship that, since 2007, has given young playwrights financial and artistic support for a year at The Lark so they can focus on writing new plays and find a community of actors and directors who can help them move their work from script to stage. Her efforts have supported some of this generation’s most talented playwrights, including Carson Kreitzer, Samuel D. Hunter (2014 MacArthur Fellow), Katori Hall, Tarell Alvin McCraney(2013 MacArthur Fellow), Tommy Smith, A. Rey Pamatmat, Dominique Morisseau, Kimber Lee, Eric Dufault, and Martyna Majok. Even beyond the first year of the fellowship, Playwrights of New York, Inc. continues to support these writers through its “PoNY 2.0” programs that provide financial aid, healthcare subsidies, theater residencies, and a recently established financial literacy “boot camp” in partnership with Lark. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA Playwriting Program, she is a recipient of the 2004 Chesterfield Writer’s Film Project Fellowship, sponsored by Paramount Pictures, and continues to write and develop plays (several of which she worked on at The Lark).  The skills she developed early in her career as an advertising executive at Grey Entertainment and Serino Coyne, Inc. have served her well in raising the profile of PoNY, The Lark and the many projects she stands behind. Sandi serves as a Philanthropic Advisor to Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770.  She is co-chair of the Arthur Miller Foundation, with Arthur's daughter, Rebecca Miller, where they are spear-heading a movement to increase the number of NYC public school students receiving theater and film education as an integral part of their academic curriculum.  Sandi helped develop a pilot program, in conjunction with the Department of Education, that in its first year will support the sustainability of theater education for over 5,000 students.  She has also chaired fundraising events for organizations such as Young Women's Leadership Network, Fresh Air Fund, ASPCA, NARAL, The Doe Fund and the 92nd St. Y Nursery School.
