LITERARY WING

The Literary Wing was set up during the 1996-97 season when it became clear that a more effective system was needed to review a growing influx of manuscripts. The Literary Wing (or Litwing) is a volunteer group of theatre artists and professionals that reviews plays submitted to the Lark Play Development Center for consideration in the annual Playwrights’ Week Festival. The Literary Wing meets one Saturday afternoon a month during the theatre season to discuss plays they’ve read that meet the Lark’s selection criteria: a) Plays that are ambitious, fresh, playful, engaging, energizing, provocative, powerful, and theatrical; b) Plays that reveal unheard and vital perspectives; c) Playwrights with clear goals about their writing who are open to a development process. Throughout the season, the Litwing helps maintain a running list of finalist plays, and this list is sent to a Selection Committee that will determine which plays will be chosen for further development in Playwrights’ Week.
