Jeroen van den Berg took part in a Playwrights' Workshop residency at the Lark for a in 2006-07. His residency is the third of a three year partnership between the Lark, the Netherlands Consulate in New York City, and the Theater Institute Netherlands with the support of the Dutch Government.
In November 2006, Lark Producing Director John Clinton Eisner collaborated with Jeroen and a group of actors to explore the English translation and to present a Studio Retreat of his play POLAROID. This consisted of discussions about project goals and 30 hours of work time with actors culminating in a casual public presentation and discussion of the play. Additionally, we created roundtable sessions for Jeroen to explore his projects.
Throughout the autumn portion of the residency, we arranged for Jeroen to meet new contacts in the field. We worked closely on this effort with Catherine Coray of the NYU faculty and others with whom he already has strong relationships. Through this process, he has established relationships with TCG, the Dramatists Guild, leading artists, agents, literary directors and producers.
We also arranged for Jeroen to have numerous opportunities to observe work at the Lark and beyond, attending roundtables, workshops, and many plays in production – often in the company of Lark staff.
