Artist Spotlight: "And Then You Get Here" with Francisco Mendoza

Playwrights’ Corner
A graphic of a yellow spotlight shining down on the words "Artist Spotlight"

Host Christopher Reyes is back, this time talking to writer and marketing manager extraordinaire Francisco Mendoza! They discuss Francisco's journey from the corporate world to the arts, his play Machine Learning, and how it has grown since it was developed through Playwrights' Week at The Lark in 2016, and they delve deeper into some of the things Francisco wrote about in his most recent blog post for The Lark, "Stop asking immigrants to justify their presence."

And if you just can't get enough of what these two have to say (it's fair, they're really smart and interesting), be sure to scroll down and have a listen to Ghostlight: The Artist Spotlight Aftershow, for more from their conversation!

I wasn't prepared for the realities of what it would be like to live here. I remember having this feeling when I first came to New York of seeing it as such a beautiful city and one that I wanted to be a part of, but there was something of a glass pane between me and it. I was constantly reminded, in a way that I did not expect, by a lot of people in that journey, that I was being allowed to be here. And that it wasn't going to be for a long time."
