Don't Forget! In addition to this month's round-up of fee-free opportunities that we've found all around the theater field, The Lark is currently accepting applications for two opportunities of our own. Apply now for Playwrights' Week (Deadline April 15, 2020) our annual festival of new work selected through an Open Access submissions process, and The Van Lier New Voices Fellowship (Deadline EXTENDED to April 15, 2020), with support from the Jerome Foundation, which supports playwrights of color age 30 and under. Athena Project

Deadline: April 15, 2020*

Athena Project is now accepting submissions from women, trans and gender-nonconforming individuals for its Plays In Progress Series (PIPS) in Denver, Colorado. Three to six new plays will be selected and given a dramaturg, director, and cast for presentation and development in the model of a Table Reading, which includes approximately 3-5 hours of video conference time with the dramaturg, director, and playwright and 1.5 hours of read-through/rehearsal before the performance.

The Gassner Award

Deadline: April 15, 2020

The John Gassner Memorial Playwriting Award Competition fosters new playwrights and scripts through this competition established by Molly Gassner, wife of theater historian John Gassner. This award will be administered by a panel of judges named by the New England Theatre Conference Executive Board. A staged reading of the award-winning scripts, or of selected scenes from those scripts, may be given at the annual NETC convention.

The Miranda Family 'Voces Latinx' National Playwriting Competition

Deadline: April 15, 2020

Repertorio Español is accepting submissions of full-length plays that resonate with Latinx audiences and accurately depict the Latinx/Hispanic experience. Plays must be original and unproduced, and can be written in either Spanish or English. Playwrights must be at least 18 years of age and residents of the United States or Puerto Rico. Finalists will receive a staged reading at Repertorio to further develop the script, and Grand Prize, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place winners will receive $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively.

3 Girls Theatre

Deadline: April 30, 2020

Each year, 3Girls Theatre invites emerging Bay Area women playwrights aged 40+ to apply to join the Company as Brady Fellows. Each Brady Fellow works with a dramaturg, director, and cast to develop and stage a play. The Brady Fellow Program offers artistic support, commitment and community to women theatmakers in their prime who share our passion for bringing stories told by women to the stage.

Barrington Stage Company’s Bonnie and Terry Burman New Play Award

Deadline: April 30, 2020

Barrington Stage seeks an original, emerging new voice in the American Theater. The winning playwright will receive $25,000, a staged reading and possible full production. Two additional $5,000 awards will be given to playwrights who will each receive a staged reading. (Fun Fact: Last season, the inaugural recipient of this award was Larkee Stacey Rose!)
