Yale Drama Series/David C. Horn Prize
Deadline: August 15
The Yale Drama Series is seeking submissions for its 2018 playwriting competition. The winning play will be selected by the series' current judge, Ayad Akhtar. The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the David Charles Horn Prize of $10,000, publication of his/her manuscript by Yale University Press, and a staged reading at Lincoln Center's Claire Tow Theater.
Sky Cooper New American Play Prize
Deadline: August 31
Norton J. “Sky” Cooper established the New American Play Prize at Marin Theatre Company in 2007 to celebrate the work of the American playwright and to encourage the creation of bold, powerful new voices and plays for the American stage. The Sky Cooper Prize will be awarded annually to either an established or emerging playwright for an outstanding new work. The play selected as the Sky Cooper winner will receives a $10,000 award and a developmental workshop as part of the theater’s annual New Play Reading Series. The winning play will also be considered under option for a full production at MTC as part of the theater’s annual main stage season.
Urban Stages: Words by Women
Deadline: August 31
Only a small fraction of new plays produced every year are written by women. To encourage the development and production of plays by women, Urban Stages puts out a special call for their Words by Women Reading Series periodically. These plays are given special attention and considered more immediately by our Literary Committee. Plays must be written by female playwrights. While not mandatory, casts with a majority of women and plays exploring social issues facing women today are encouraged.
The Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women
Deadline: August 31 (or once 200 scripts have been received)
The Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women was founded by Yellow Rose Productions, with permission of Beth Henley, to encourage and recognize the new works of female playwrights. The Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women aims to give voice to the stories of this generation and to bring into the spotlight important works that have been crafted.
Bly Creative Fellowship & Bly Creative Capacity Grant

The Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) seeks exceptional projects that are exploring and expanding the boundaries of dramaturgy in the Americas. The Bly Creative Fellowship and Bly Creative Capacity Grant are designed to identify and offer significant financial support for artists who are creating new approaches to dramaturgy and/or are generating programs that are committed to exploring the unknown. With these grants, funded by a generous donation from Mark Bly, LMDA is committed to facilitating the creative dreams of independent or institutional artists who are defining new ways of conducting dramaturgical activities. LMDA will award grants between $5,000 and $20,000 for individual projects (Fellowships) and for individual and institutional partnerships (Creative Capacity Grants).
