ANT Fest 2020
Deadline: January 15th
Ars Nova is now accepting submissions for ANT Fest, a festival of All New Talent showcasing new work from New York’s most adventurous emerging artists. ANT Fest 2020 will run through the month of June. Ars Nova is interested in unique, innovative projects that span traditional genre boxes (theater, comedy, music, burlesque, drag, variety arts or anything else you can think of) in an exciting way to tell a story.
The Playwrights' Center Core Writer Program
Deadline: January 23rd
The Core Writer Program supports playwrights who demonstrate a sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and artistic excellence. Created in recognition of the particular needs of emerging and established writers, the program gives 25-30 playwrights from across the country the time and tools to develop new work for the stage. All Core Writers receive play development workshops at the Center in collaboration with prominent directors, actors, dramaturgs, and designers. Core Writers are eligible to be included in our formal season of public readings: the PlayLabs Festival and the Ruth Easton New Play Series. Core Writers are also promoted by the Center and provided opportunities through an extensive network of colleges and universities, cultural institutions, and producing theaters. Each term is three years; Core Writers may reapply for additional terms.
The Bridge Award
Deadline: February 1st
The Bridge Award was established with the purpose of recognizing an emerging playwright of exceptional talent within the United States military. The award consists of a $10,000 prize and an AITAF produced reading of the winning work. The 2020 final selecting judge will be David Henry Hwang.
The Playwrights Realm
Deadline: February 2nd
A two for one special! The Playwrights Realm is currently accepting applications for both the Writing Fellowship and Scratchpad Series. The Writing Fellowship awards four early-career playwrights nine months of resources designed to help them reach their goals, and culminates in the INK'D Festival of public readings. The Scratchpad Series opens The Realm’s doors to early-career playwrights from around the country. Participants spend a week in New York City for a developmental reading of their play. Apply for one or both!
The Middle Eastern American Writers Lab
Deadline: February 7th
The Middle Eastern American Writers Lab at The Lark is now accepting submissions for its 2020 cohort! The Lab is a New York City-based home for writers of Middle Eastern descent, that creates a safe space for playwrights, television writers, and screenwriters to share their work, support one another, and discuss the past, present, and future of Middle Eastern storytelling on American stages and screens.
Capital Stage Playwrights' Revolution
Deadline: February 28th
This series of staged readings seeks to identify and develop exciting new plays and playwrights. These new works are brought to theatrical life through a series of staged readings performed by professional actors in Capital Stage’s intimate theater. Capital Stage invites audiences to take part in the new play development process by attending readings and participating in post-reading discussion.
