National Latino Playwriting Award

Deadline: November 15

The Arizona Theatre Company is accepting submissions for the National Latino Playwriting Award. The award is open to all Latino playwrights currently residing in the United States, its territories, or Mexico.Scripts may be in English, English and Spanish, or solely in Spanish. (Spanish-language and bilingual scripts must be accompanied by an English translation.) Plays must be unpublished, professionally unproduced, and not currently under option at the time of submission. Each script will be read and evaluated by a culturally diverse panel of theatre artists; finalists will be judged by ATC artistic staff.

Hypatia-In-The Woods

Hypatia-in-the-Woods provides and maintains Holly House, a residential retreat center for women of all creative talents, in a serene environment free of the distractions of everyday life. Applications for residencies from women in the arts are welcome – broadly defined to include visual, written, and performing arts, as well as other similar forms of creative expression – in entrepreneurship and in academic professions.

Detroit New Works Festival

Deadline: November 15

Outvisible Theatre Company is accepting submissions of full-length or one-act plays and musicals that address equality and diversity, mental health, and/or social issues. Plays must have never been produced, be able to be produced in accordance with Outvisible’s commitment to imaginative and minimalistic theater, be able to be produced with eight actors or less, and playwrights must ​be able to attend the festival May 4-6, 2018 in the Detroit area.

The Puffin Foundation

Deadline: Request application materials by December 12. Submit application by December 30.

The Puffin Foundation Ltd. has sought to open the doors of artistic expression by providing grants to artists and art organizations who are often excluded from mainstream opportunities due to their race, gender, or social philosophy. The Foundation is interested in art that educates the public on topical issues. For example, projects that seek to enrich and inform the public on important subjects such as the environment, social justice, civil rights, and other contemporary issues facing the country (and the planet).

The Premiere Play Festival

Deadline: December 15

Premiere Stages is accepting submissions of unproduced plays written by playwrights affiliated with the greater metropolitan area. All plays submitted to the festival are evaluated by a panel of professional theater producers, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, and publishers. Four finalists are subsequently selected for public Equity readings in March 2018. Following the readings, one play is selected for an Equity production in the Premiere Stages 2018 Mainstage Season and receives an award of $2500. The runner-up receives a 29-hour staged reading and $1000. The two other finalists will each be awarded $750.
