PlaySpace is a new-work development program for wildly imaginative theatrical pieces. The five-month long residency lends personalized support to the core artists with the aim of bringing their ambitious theater project closer to being production-ready, and culminates in a public, workshop presentation.
MACH 33: The Caltech│Pasadena Playhouse Festival of New Science-Driven Plays
Deadline: October 15, 2019
MACH 33 energizes the conversations about scientific, mathematical, and technological questions by staging readings of new, unpublished, unproduced science-based plays. The readings are open to the public and present a discussion with Caltech/JPL scientific panelists after the show. Festival playwrights have the unique opportunity to work with science advisors from Caltech and JPL and dramaturgs from the Pasadena Playhouse. Playwrights must live in the Greater Los Angeles area.
A Blade of Grass Fellowship

A Blade of Grass Fellowship supports socially engaged artists with $20,000 in minimally restricted funds, comprehensive written field research reports that utilize action research methodology, an expenses paid two-day orientation retreat in New York City to engage a cohort of peer artists and A Blade of Grass staff and board, and more.
The Annual Parity Commission
Deadline: October 17, 2019
Parity Productions will award two commissions to women, and trans and gender nonconforming playwrights. The selected playwrights will receive $2,500 each, receive regular feedback on their commissioned work, one “closed door” reading (attended by cast, Parity Productions Artistic Director, and literary department), and at least one public reading and/or developmental production. An option for Parity Productions to produce the work is included in The Commission agreement.
2020 Queens Arts Fund - New Work Grant

The New Work Grant supports artists that live in Queens or lease a studio in Queens, for the creation of new work that contributes to the cultural life of the borough. The grant, of $3,000, can be used for: Artists' fees; Marketing and publicity costs; Supplies and materials needed for the execution of the project; Venue rental for the project.
Sundance 2020 Theatre Lab
Deadline: November 1, 2019
The 2020 Theatre Lab welcomes theatremakers from the United States and the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA). Up to eight projects will be selected for this 21-day Lab, and projects on any topic and in any genre are eligible. For artists applying from Arabic-speaking countries, projects may be submitted in Arabic, English, or French.
Superhero Clubhouse Fellowship
Deadline: November 3, 2019
The Fellowship is a six-month paid residency for two individuals to collaborate and create a new performance-based project exploring environmental justice. Fellows develop this project with opportunities to share work, participate in other Superhero Clubhouse programs, and engage with the community. The Fellowship culminates in a presentation for an invited audience.
NYSCA-A.R.T./New York Creative Opportunity Fund

This Statewide Theatre Regrant Program provides grants of $2,000 to $6,000 to support the development of new work for the professional theater in New York State. This grant addresses small professional theaters or independently producing artists, with a focus on work that expands the form and addresses new or underserved audiences using unique, clearly-defined strategies.
