A Closer Look: Nick Gandiello & Krista Williams

Playwrights’ Corner

On Monday, May 7th, The Lark will hold a Rita Goldberg Playwrights' Workshop Reading of Nick Gandiello's Cicada, which he has been developing in residency at The Lark over the past ten months.

The play follows Benedetta, who is trying to ride a wave of political engagement into the seat of her northern New Jersey district’s County Executive. At the same time, she's preparing for her daughter’s wedding and balancing out her volatile son. When a long past trauma is used to smear her campaign, she and her family must decide how they will present themselves on the public stage.

In order to give audiences a closer look at the work, Nick sat down with Lark's own Krista Williams, who will direct the reading, to discuss the impulses he followed to build this play. Check out the video below to hear their conversation!

A Closer Look: Nick Gandiello & Krista Williams

Reading these plays that I've loved and adored, and watching how much enjoyment we can get out of just spending time with lovely people, I think it took me a long time as an artist and as a professional to be like, oh, there's theatrical worth in that."
