Spotlight On... O Mae Davis!
We're back again with another Artist Spotlight to ask our Playwriting Fellows the most important questions of our time. Learn more about what our Apothetae and Lark Playwriting Fellow, O Mae Davis, is working on, and the importance of Good Smells™. AND, if this interview still leaves you wanting to know more, then we have an event just for you! Join us on June 7th at 7pm for our (virtual) Meet the Writers event. Our Fellows will share excerpts of their plays-in-process, and offer insight into their playwriting process. RSVP Here (it's Free!)
What is the best, most whimsical way you could introduce yourself?
My name is Oya, O Mae Duchess-Davis. I am a black queer four souled playwright from Minneapolis. The world oko, that my souls lead me to, serves as the main inspiration for the worlds of my plays.
What are you working on right now? It can be a play, or something else!
Right now I am working on two plays. One is titled packages, Or the things we deliver, this is a new piece. The second is called Lunch, which is a horror play about white privilege. I am also working on a one man show for my soul Tino.
Who or what is inspiring you these days?
Music wise, Lil Nas X. Playwright Jeremy O’Harris. There are more, but these ones are my current ones.
Describe your workspace for us! Anything that you keep nearby that might surprise us?
I keep candles around me, also Palo Santo. Good smells are really important in my practice.
How would you describe this virtual season in one word?
What are you tuned into these days (movies, books, tv, podcasts, music… anything)?
Concrete cowboy, anything by octavia butler, and Toni Morrison.
What is your writing snack of choice?
Peanuts, trail mix, and grapes.
Finally, what are you looking forward to?
Continuing to transform, both myself and the world around me.
