Bernarda's Daughters

By Diane Exavier

Summer in Flatbush and the air is hot with death as the Abellard sisters busy themselves with the work of mourning their father while watching their neighborhood mourn a man recently killed by the police. Flames in the forms of desire, longing, and family secrets slowly burn in their mother’s house where it seems there is no one to cool it in this play inspired by Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba with poetic cues from Louise Glück, Toni Morrison, Mary Ruefle, and more.
